Inlayed Flowers - Joseph Pierre Redoute
Not a true inlay, - faux or false inlay.
This is a 4 feet squared, (120 cm sq.) engraved piece of birch plywood.
It had been masked, then engraved through it. Parts of the mask (stencil) were then removed. These areas had stains painted to simulate various woods using brushes , rollers, steel combs, and other tools.
If this was the "real thing" it would cost several thousand dollars. As it is, it cost about $150.00.
